7 Minivans for Soccer Moms
By: Lindsey Boycott on May 21, 2015Are you a soccer mom? Do you want a vehicle that can ride like a dream and roll with the punches? You need convenience, cargo space and a safety rating that would make a semi truck jealous. Well, we have the lowdown on 2015's best mini vans for you and your family.
Finding the perfect family ride at an affordable price is the first step in choosing your new wheels. Then you'll need to shop around and get the best deal on a car loan. Once all that is done you'll be ready to hit the road safely and in style.
Here are our top minivan picks for 2015:
Toyota Sienna
Toyota does well with the critics, especially when you consider that its cargo space exceeds most other minivans and its user-friendly interior uses high-end materials. The Sienna has great get-up and go but can get a little loud when pushed. Also, convenience takes a second-row seat for cargo since these don’t fold down.
Honda Odyssey
This ride has top ratings in performance, interior and safety. It has excellent handling, good fuel economy and a well-built interior. What’s the down-side? It has a higher price tag for its class and the second row seats are heavy and have to be manually removed to get the most out of the cargo space.
Kia Sedona
Kia won accolades from critics with its fully redesigned Sedona out this year. It passed with flying colours with its quiet and well-appointed interior and its many high-tech options. The Sedona also has a lower price point than other rivals in its class. Unfortunately, its highway acceleration leaves something to be desired and the handling is clumsier than competitors in its class.
Chrysler Town & Country
The pros for the Town & Country are abundant, including an adjustable seating system and lots of family friendly standard features. The V6 engine provides ample oomph for people hauling and a stylish interior that’s bound to impress. Its naysayers will say its lower fuel economy and rougher ride don’t make it as nice as it could be.
Nissan Quest
The Quest is a cut above the rest when it comes to its acceleration and passing power. Its standard continuously variable transmission (CVT) guarantees a smooth ride and good fuel economy for its class. The high-quality interior and comfortable seats get a nod from reviewers but less cargo space and fewer standard features make it second-choice for some.
Dodge Grand Caravan
Dodge offers a great starting price and convenient ‘Stow ‘n Go’ seats to maximize people and cargo convenience. However, it loses marks when it comes to its louder V6 engine and rough ride on certain roads (read gravel and/or pot-holed roads).
Mazda Mazda5
While the Mazda 5 comes in middle of the pack in the ratings, it shines when you consider its excellent fuel economy and responsive handling. It’s also considered US News’ 2015 Best Minivan SUV for the Money. It loses some of its sparkle when you consider its limited cargo space, ho-hum acceleration, and limited features.
